⚠️Saturday 12/6/25 Siren Test Canceled⚠️![]()
Due to the expected low temperatures over the next 24-36 hours and low wind chill, the Wood County December 6, 2025, test of the outdoor warning sirens is canceled.
Many of the sirens in Wood County use an electrical motor to power the sirens. Most manufacturers of these sirens do not recommend testing below 20F. Under extreme cold temperatures, moisture present in the siren would freeze, and could damage the motor when it is activated. Any damage sustained to the sirens could render them inoperable as we move towards severe weather this spring. Repairs could take an extended amount of time and costs would likely be in the thousands of dollars.
This test occurrence will be canceled, not rescheduled. We will plan to resume the normal testing schedule and frequency next month. Please feel free to share this information widely.
🥶 A strong cold front will usher in a brief shot of arctic air across the region tonight with wind chill temperatures bottoming out near or slightly below zero by early Friday morning. ⬆️ Temperatures should quickly rebound to the upper 20s/near 30 later on Friday.
As of 11am this morning, northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania picked up around 3-4 inches of new snow. Areas south of Mansfield, along the I-71 corridor, saw higher accumulations closer to 6". Lake enhanced snow showers will continue this afternoon with some areas picking up another half inch or so.
